Professor Gustavo Nino

Professor Gustavo Nino, M.D., M.S., MBA is Associate Chief for Academic Affairs, Director of Sleep Medicine and Airway Biology Research in Children’s National Hospital, Washington D.C. He is also Principal Investigator and Tenured Faculty in Pediatrics and Genomics and Precision Medicine at The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He has been awarded research grants by several of the US National Institutes of Health (NIH), including the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and the Eunice Kennedy National Institute.

Dr. Nino has authored more than 100 publications (>2700 citations) and is internationally recognized for his work on early life respiratory tract immunity against viruses, respiratory disorders of prematurity, Down Syndrome and the pathogenesis of severe obstructive sleep apnea in children. His academic contributions have been recognized at the national and international levels. He has been featured speaker and chair of sessions at several conferences including American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), CHEST, Pediatric Academic Societies (PAS), and the American Thoracic Society (ATS). He has been lecturer in several Pulmonary Divisions including Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, Johns Hopkins University, Yale University and has been a Visiting Professor in Pediatric Pulmonology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. In addition, in 2019 he received the “Robert Mellins Outstanding Achievement Award”, the highest mid-career distinction from the ATS Pediatric Assembly.
