BIOGRAPHY

Professor Susanna Esposito is Full Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Parma, Director of the Pediatrics Residency Program, Director of the Pediatric Clinic at Parma University Hospital, and President of the World Association for Infectious Diseases and Immunological Disorders (WAidid). Previously, she held academic and leadership positions at the Universities of Milan and Perugia, where she directed multiple pediatric clinical and reference units, including high-intensity pediatric care, cystic fibrosis, pediatric diabetes, cytogenetics, and accredited pediatric clinical trial units.
She chaired the WHO Committee for the Eradication of Measles and Congenital Rubella (2012–2016) and has held numerous leadership roles in national and international scientific societies, including President of the Italian Society of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and member of the Executive Council of ESPID. In 2012, she discovered two new enteroviruses (C-117 and C-118) and has led over 200 pediatric clinical trials as principal investigator.
Professor Esposito is actively involved in ethics committees, telemedicine, preventive and social pediatrics, and antimicrobial therapy societies, and collaborates extensively with national and international research groups. Her research focuses on vaccines, respiratory and emerging infections, antimicrobial therapy, and more recently on artificial intelligence, digital therapies, and climate change in pediatric diseases. She has authored over 750 peer-reviewed publications (impact factor >6,000), with an h-index of 91 (Scopus) and 113 (Google Scholar).
