BIOGRAPHY

Mikhail Kazachkov MD is Professor of Pediatrics at NYU Grossman School of Medicine and Director of the Division of Pediatric Pulmonology at Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at NYU Langone Health.
He started his career in Pediatric Pulmonology in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1980s where he received extensive training in pediatric bronchoscopy.
He did additional training at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill learning flexible bronchoscopy from legendary Robert (Bob) Wood. He moved to New York City in 2000.
Dr. Kazachkov is a founder and Director of Pediatric AeroDigestive Program at NYU (GUARD – Gastroesophageal, Upper Airway and Respiratory Diseases Center) and Pediatric Bronchoscopy Program at NYU. His personal bronchoscopy record exceeds 6500 procedures. He performs variety of interventional respiratory endoscopy procedures including foreign body extraction, endobronchial and transbronchial biopsies including with utilization of cryo probe, EBUS and many others. He teaches pediatric bronchoscopy skills locally and internationally. He wrote the chapter on endobronchial biopsy for the most recent pediatric bronchoscopy textbook (Piccione and Goldfarb, 2021).
His clinical interests include pediatric bronchology, aerodigestive disorders, respiratory care to complex patients with genetic and neurological diseases, severe uncontrolled asthma.
His academic record includes multiple publications in both experimental and clinical research including gastroesophageal reflux, pediatric severe uncontrolled asthma, respiratory management of children with primary muscle weakness. He has been co-author on several guidelines including Respiratory Management of Familial Dysautonomia and Respiratory Management of Esophageal Atresia with Tracheoesophageal fistula. He authored several textbook chapters.
His major teaching accomplishment is that more than 30 pediatric residents he has mentored during last 20 years chose Pediatric Pulmonology as their career. Four of them are Division Directors themselves now.
