BIOGRAPHY

Elianne J.L.E. Vrijlandt is a pediatric pulmonologist at the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), where she has been a staff member since 2003. She completed her medical training at the University of Groningen, followed by pediatric residency and subspecialty training in pediatric pulmonology at the Academic Hospital Groningen. In 2006 she obtained her PhD on Respiratory health in children born prematurely, a theme that has remained central throughout her clinical and scientific career.

Dr. Vrijlandt is internationally recognized for her work on the long-term respiratory outcomes of preterm birth, bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), pediatric asthma, and innovative lung function assessment in young children. She has led and contributed to numerous national and international cohort studies and clinical trials, and has published extensively in leading journals. She is actively involved in guideline development, advisory boards, and scientific committees, and has served on multiple steering and leadership groups within UMCG.

In addition to her research and clinical work, Dr. Vrijlandt is committed to education and quality of care, holding various certifications in teaching, leadership, and value-based healthcare. She regularly lectures at international conferences and collaborates widely across disciplines.
